Are dentures covered by Medicare?
As important as it is to understand what Medicare covers, it is equally important to understand what it does not. Original Medicare doesn’t cover most dental care, including dentures. Medicare Part A will pay for certain dental services that you get when you’re in a hospital.
One of the advantages of Medicare Advantage plans is that they can include supplemental benefits that cover things over and above what is covered by Original Medicare. If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, dentures may be covered in full or partially, depending on the plan design and insurance carrier you choose. Your deductible, copays, or coinsurance may be different depending on the plan you have chosen. There can be a wide variation in what is covered and benefit limits on coverage between plans offered by different insurance companies. It is important to check your Medicare Advantage Summary of Benefits to see if your plan offers any supplemental benefits for dentures and what the associated out-of-pocket costs for those dentures are. If you are unsure about whether or not they are covered, you can work with an independent insurance agent who can help you find a plan that covers dentures if there is one available in your area.
